I really appreciate your videos, they have kept me going. Hope this share helps someone be better prepared than I was. I got 5 chickens 2 years ago, fell in love, got a few more and expanded to two 12*30 coops, 2 flock, totalling 27 chickens. I love my lil dinosaurs so much! However, in that time, I have acquired a feed store worth of care products. They have had respiratory, egg bound, sour crop, unknown neuro issues, one fell dead, two that had Marek's symptoms but it never spread, one unknown passing, Coccidosis, poopy butt, scaley leg mites, round worms and now an infestation of mites in one of the coops. Let's not leave out chicken drama. This has been overwhelming because I have made the effort to do all the recommendations for high quality care. Except putting fresh herbs in their litter because I have put money into everything else. My free range 10 acres all year long. Comparably, my neighbors have had one issue of leg mites and theirs do not free range. I don't know why my journey has been so difficult but I'm thankful to have learned all that I have. I really hope it smooths out at some point.

I have learned a great deal from you in raising chickens. I only have ten for now because I’m taking it slow in raising them through the seasons here in the Lowcountry of SC. Eventually I will add more. In over a year I lost one chicken do to an owl that swept my hen away. I was angry and distraught that this hen was defenseless because though we had their running area bordered, it was not covered at the top. WE IMMEDIATELY CHANGED THAT! It is covered. I walked around everywhere to see if I could find even feathers from a struggle. Through cold, heat, a tornado that passed on our property, heavy wind and rain, my girls have survived and are happy. I know that they will eventually die from old age. But in the meantime and I share this with you, I gave them the best life while they were in my care. You did as well. In fact, you said that in one of your teachings. Thank you! I wish I could let my girls roam and scratch all over my property (I have 36 acres) but there are too many hawks and owls.

I will not be taking my chickens to any vet in this horrid time where they are sacrificing so many in the name of mass fear. I will instead follow the advice that you have already given about the epsom salt warm bath and/or that Brenda p suggested àbout the mineral oil. 🐔

So I got a question, and I want it to be scientific without making me sound disgusting LOL. So do their hoohas stretch out to the size of the egg and that's why they sometimes kind of scream when laying them? Do they ever get so big, the chicken couldn't lay it and died????

Years ago, one of my cats was acting funny. I was working and a friend took her to the vet for me. She brought her back and said the vet recommended keeping her comfortable until she was ready to go. Her kidneys were failing. I called the vet and said, "Doc, you just can't tell me to let my cat go!" He asked me how old she was and I hesitated. I then answered, "23." The moral of the story is that it is never enough. We want the love forever.

I lost my favorite chicken (Pikachu) She was a white Brahma. She would let me know every time someone would lay an egg. She was the one who would come to me every time to say hi. I don't know if she died from the heat or when the neighbor started the tiller next to their chicken coop. I never thought I would cry over a chicken but I raised these girls from baby's . she was just 1year 3 months old.

Hi Dalia, I feel your heart when you speak about self forgiveness, I know how important that is to get that load off your heart, my faith in Jesus is helping me with that, He died on the Cross to forgive our sins, He rose again to give us eternal life if we trust and believe in Him. ‘Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’ Much love and blessings 💗

First off, although I have trouble breathing the dust off of them, am not against birds at all. My daughter lives next door and has 25+ chickens, and I have lived several times near poultry farms. My aunt, Barbara McBride, passed away from bird flu in 1963. The doctors didn’t know where or how she came down with it. She did not have or live near poultry or house birds. She lived in Riverside County in California, and is buried in the veterans’ cemetery there.

I understand about the urge to treat when you know in the back of your mind that you should let them go. We don't want to give up on them. It feels like failing them. In the end, we loved them and the know it. We're human. We love hard. It's how we are made. We're also imperfect. But we do the best we can. You have reflected and her experience will help you to navigate better in the future. She has helped you to be better for the next time. I had the same experience with a my cat, Chad in 2020. It still rips my heart. But I believe it was part of his purpose. To help me love well for those that come after him. I'm so sorry. Praying for peace for your heart. Thank you for helping us all provide the best care for our chickens!! You are such a blessing!

I’m sure we are all crying with you. I am. Also! There’s a Christian program called Freedom Session that I graduated from last year. There’s a lot of work on forgiveness. I recommend it. And what’s going on in my chicken yard? The 9 week old chickens (my first intro to chickens who I hatched myself) are loving their new life, free ranging in our forest and goat pastures. We have younger ones too who aren’t yet free ranging but learning lots from their older siblings. Much of the information I learned and put into action is all thanks to you. Watched so many of your videos by now and read your book.

Question. .. I've got 7 large chickens that haven't enjoyed the company of my two silkies.... My question is... Is it OK to have my silkies as indoor chickens with lots of areas of the chick mix growing grasses and other yummy chicken goodies? They have a special nighttime pillow and have an outdoor access area that's not with the big naughty girls. Basically is it cruel to have them indoors when they choose to not go outside? They still get lots of outdoor yummies, just no bugs and window sunshine. Should I force them outside during the day?

I too love my chickens, they aren’t just farm animals to me, they are special. I’ve only had chickens for a year and a half so I’m still learning. Mimi, my gold laced polish had a prolapse. My first really big problem with one of my girls. I was upset and scared, I just knew she would die on me. I went directly to your channel and found your video on this and I saved her because of you!!! I completely understand your emotions and you are the kindest person, Jessica was blessed to be part of your flock. In my opinion she couldn’t have had a better life anywhere else! Thank you for this video and for the life lessons we learn through them as well. God bless you!

I had a chicken that was egg bound and tried soaking her in a Epsom salt bath and she couldn't pass it. I decided to take a small syringe and filled it half way with mineral oil then inserted the syringe half way into her vent carefully pushing the plunger. It lubricated it inside and she passed the egg with no problem.
